Yule, Return of the Light
Yule, also known as the winter solstice, is the next upcoming festivity on the pagan calendar. It falls on December 21st, the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and it marks the beginning of the winter season. In our region it has for some reason always been celebrated on December 24th, even in pre-Christian times.
Unfortunately, our roundtable group can’t celebrate the yule festival together. The holiday season is a busy time for us, and it can be difficult to find time to observe the traditions and rituals.
However, we can still integrate each other into our celebrations by thinking of one another during our rituals. So we agreed to each practice our own little celebration of the coming of the light, all at roughly the same time. By integrating thoughts about each other into our rituals, we can feel connected and included, even though we are not physically together. Later, we might post about our experience in our private discord group, and discuss and learn more about the festival and its tradition and meaning.
